Wednesday Weight Update...

So I am going to be completely honest...I have been terrible this past week! Emotional eating at it's best. If it's in front of me, I'm consuming it. No joke! I've been feeling down, tired, and just un-energized. I've been stressing myself out about things at work, at home and at the forefront, I've been down about our fertility issues. Don't get me wrong, I do not mope all day and curse people with babies in the stores...well, I'm not there yet :) But I've had some bad days recently...days when I wonder IF we're meant to be parents. My heart tells me that I wouldn't have this longing if it's not meant to be...my mind tells me that this could be a test and that maybe we're supposed to learn something from this journey and the outcome in the end will be living our lives out, just the two of us.

I apologize for the rambling there...I don't want to get off track of the main focus of this post. Well, it does involve fertility, but that's only one aspect of it.

I have been doing a LOT of research lately regarding Gluten Free diets. Did you know that our bodies were not meant to process Gluten? Here are just some of the symptoms of a gluten intolerance:

- Fatigue
- Stomach issues
- Depression
- Anxiety
- Infertility
- Nausea
- ~~Unexplained weight loss~~

Wait, the last one definitely has not been a symptom of mine :) But the rest of the ones that I mentioned, I've experienced all and am still experiencing most. So why wouldn't you give something like this a try? It's definitely not going to hurt. I'm sure that cutting certain foods out of our lives will NOT be easy. It may sound silly, but since I was a little girl, I have had food cravings. It's gotten to the point where if I don't get when I'm craving soon, I'm going to be a very ill girl. Once I do get the food that I'm craving, I go on a stint of eating that food every.single.day for at least a week! I don't know what causes it, but I can just imagine what these next few weeks are going to be like.

I have to give this a shot though. I've read stories about people cutting out gluten and/or sugar, and within the first week having incredible amounts of energy...energy that they never thought they would have! It's going to be a transition, and it will take time, but all-in-all it's going to be for the best.

I will probably have several posts relating to our Gluten Free journey, and I hope you'll follow along. If you are GF and would like to share your experience or give me some tips, I would love to hear them!

Goodbye 2011, Hello 2012...

As with every new year, I always have the highest of hopes and try to keep an optimistic attitude! I always want this year to be better than the last. I have to say that for the last couple of years, that's been the case. We had a pretty good 2011. I thought I would go through some of the highlights and then take a look forward to this brand new year...

Josh completed his classes and received his Bachelor's degree in Business from the University of Alabama. I know that he's so proud to have that now and I'm proud of him for sticking with it!

We went on our first major road trip...Happy Valley (State College), Pennsylvania! It was a 14 hour ride one way, but we had a great time! The Alabama/Penn St. game was the reason for the trip, but it was great being on the road, eating at places we had never heard of (and boy did we eat some great food!)

In May I lost a man that was very special to me...my grandfather, Pa. This was my dad's dad. He suffered towards the end, but there's no doubt in my mind that he's no longer in pain, that he has perfect hearing and no worries...We miss him every day...

My sister-in-law, Kelley, got engaged to Andrew and we are so excited for them!

And I turned 30! I was actually pretty excited about this step into a new decade...I'm striving to make my 30's the best...

There were other things that happened in 2011, but these just stood out in my mind. Our goal now is to look forward to the new year and make it even better! Some goals of mine, besides the be a better person goals? Let's see...

- Get healthy!
- Do some DIY projects
- Spend more time with family and friends
- Work on our house
- Get an emergency fund built up

And last but not least, our main goal, is to become parents...of course this is not something that we can control, but we are still on a mission to do what we can to increase our odds. I'll do another blog post soon to catch you up on where we are in the process.

I wish everyone nothing but the best in...

It's been a while since I posted about our furbabies...Max, Maggie and Mindy are all fine. They turned 7 over the summer and are just as lazy today as ever :)

Wednesday Weight Update...Week 1

I have been such a slacker this last week...Eating whatever was in my path and just not thinking twice about it! I have made progress with the cokes though. I'm down to 1 a day, which is an improvement when you consider I was drinking at least 3 a day.

I did order a Tae Bo video that I'm going to try out. I LOVE kick-boxing and I'm sure this will kick my booty into gear! I'll give you a review of it next Wednesday.

Christmas 2010...We celebrated with family before and after Christmas and on our own Christmas day. It's was wonderful, as usual. My tradition with Josh is to get up Christmas morning, open our stockings (we open our gifts Christmas Eve night) and make a big breakfast. All the while, of course, watching "A Christmas Story" on TBS...all 24 hours! Love that movie :) In the evening we go to see a movie. We can not remember what the movie was last year...horrible memories we have! This year though, I believe we're going to see the new Sherlock Holmes movie. It's amazing how many people actually go to the movies on Christmas day...there's always lots of children going to see a movie with their parents and wearing their pj's. So cute!

This past Christmas will stand out as the last Christmas we had with Pa (my dad's dad). I'll do a post about him and his impact on my life later on.

Now that I've decided to start blogging again, I have quite a bit of catching up to do. I thought about just starting, present time, instead of going back, but since this blog is sort of a "scrapbook" of my life, I feel the need to at least do short posts about what has been going on the last, oh, 12 months or so?? Ok, not that far back, but you get the idea.

So there's my warning...you may be bored to tears but hopefully you'll find some of the posts to be entertaining and heart warming :) Well, maybe not heart warming. Enjoy!!

Wednesday Weight Update...

So in the spirit of keeping my blog updated more and needing all the encouragement I can get, I have decided to document my weight loss journey here! I know that I've done post after post about my weight issues, but after turning 30 in October, not being a parent yet and obviously just waiting on life, I decided that I have to make changes.

So here it is...I would like to lose 75-80 lbs. Maybe once I begin losing, say to the point of a 25-30 lb loss, I'll tell you what my starting weight is. As of right now, I'm just not THAT comfortable :) It's not easy to lose weight. I know this. I've been on the journey many times before and only once did I actually accomplish my challenge. You can read that post HERE. I lost 52.4 lbs...that's (pardon the pun) HUGE! I know I can do it, but I'm human, and I fail from time to time. I give into cravings (I have had cravings since I was a little girl). But the thing I have to remember is that when I fail, and I will, I can't beat myself up for it. I have to pick up where I left off and keep moving forward.

I've decided to just make small changes for now. First change...

Christmas is almost here! It has always driven me crazy to hear someone say "Christmas just snuck up on me!", but honestly, it sort of feels that way. I have to say that I am very proud of myself...For as long as I can remember, I have been a last.minute.shopper. We're talking, Christmas Eve and maybe even, I'll bring your gift AFTER Christmas! Sad, I know. But this year, I purchased my first Christmas gift in October! That's amazing progress, don't you think?? I am 95% finished also.

Another great thing that I have done this year...online shopping! I have purchased all but 5 gifts online. I love it! And there's something about having a package at your door when you get home from work :)

Now that's what I'm talkin about! Halfway up the door :) Now if I could just get in the mood to wrap all of the gifts. I've wrapped maybe 6, none of which are for anyone living in this actual house!

I have been a terrible blogger! And I have absolutely no good reason for being absent from the blogging world. I actually miss it! I haven't even visited other blogs in MONTHS! I'm completely lost on what's been going on in the world and in the lives of my bloggy friends. I'm not making any promises, but I'll attempt to blog more than once every 6 months or so :)

I hope everyone has had a good start to their holiday season!!

4 months and 9 days...

That's how long it's been since my last post. I know, that's horrible! I actually really miss my bloggy friends! I'm going to make it a goal to at least do a post a week. Hold me accountable guys.

So much has gone on in the last few months, but I won't go into it all right now. I just wanted to post about the newest developments in our journey to parenthood. Blogging about it is basically a way to document the steps, and someday we can look back on this with a child in our arms and realize that it was all worth it.

We are now going to the ART Program of Alabama at Brookwood. Dr. Houserman is my new doctor and I have to say, I REALLY like her! She's aggressive with the treatment and very straight forward, while personable at the same time. She's been through infertility herself and come out on the good end of it all.

In August I will begin Follistim (I've only done this once before) and we'll do an IUI again (last time I did Follistim, the doctor told us that because of other circumstances, we shouldn't do the IUI...heart.broken) This time we have an agreement with Dr. Houserman that no matter the circumstance, we're going to do the IUI. I still realize that if it's not our time, it's not going to work. But I have to try.

Josh and I are both looking forward to starting again with the treatments. We both have made some changes in our habits that should increase our chances of conceiving. Hopefully at the end of August, I'll be able to tell you that we're expecting. Until then, I'll talk about other things.

1. Egg nog or hot chocolate? Hot chocolate! But at Christmas, I like this Amaretto Creamer/Vanilla Bean Punch that my mother-in-law makes...yum yum!!!

2. Does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree? Santa may bring one of two "wrapped" gifts, but everything else that he brings is neatly displayed, evenly if you have a sibling :)

3. Colored lights on house/tree or white? If I had it my way, or the money to do so, I would have a color light tree, white light pretty tree, and a big ole tacky tree! This year for us though...COLORED LIGHTS ALL THE WAY!

4. Do you hang mistletoe? Nope, never have - Maybe we should though!!

5. When do you put your decorations up? Next year, it will be the weekend before Thanksgiving. As for this year, it's tonight!

6. What is your favorite holiday dish? What's ISN'T my favorite?? I love cornbread dressing - got to be my favorite!!!!!

13. Do you remember your favorite gift? My Easy Bake Oven...Those make the best little cakes!!

14. What's the most important thing about the holidays for you? Spending time with family and seeing my precious nephews get excited over boxes that their gifts came in!

15. What is your favorite holiday dessert? Sweet Potato Pie and/or Pecan Pie!

Josh and I started this last year, and are so excited to keep this up...We make up lots of goodies (candy, chex mix, cookies), and go around surprising family and friends (it's great to see someone that you may only see once every couple of years!!). We also take hot chocolate, some goodies to snack on and listen to Christmas music while looking at lights along the way :)

17. What tops your tree? Star

18. Which do you prefer, giving or receiving? Giving! Of course, it's nice to get gifts too :) I'm only human!! ha!!

19. What is your favorite Christmas song? I have 3: Holly Jolly Christmas, Rockin Around the Christmas Tree and Jingle bell Rock!! All upbeat and fun :)

20. Candy Canes? Yuck or Yum? I really like the berry flavored ones!

Please don't call them an "accident"...

"So-and-so just heard she's expecting - yeah, she's pretty upset - this child was a complete and total accident!"

Urg...Nothing irks me more than children being called "accidents"! Children are a gift, a precious one, and to someone who has difficulty having one of those "accident's", it seems to hurt me more than someone with a child to hear that. I know that there are several of you out there who may feel the same way, and some may think that I'm just venting because I'm bitter about not having a child to call an "accident".

When someone says that around me, I quickly turn that word, accident, into SURPRISE! So you didn't expect this, then let's just say you were surprised. That child is not an accident. Granted the first meaning in the dictionary for that word is "an unforeseen and unplanned event or circumstance", but that precious gift is not an accident.

For those of you with children, be thankful for your "planned" or "surprise" gift.

I have a new obsession...

V.I.N.T.A.G.E T.U.P.P.E.R.W.A.R.E.

I heart this stuff so incredibly much! I have always loved Tupperware, and being a Tupperware consultant, I'm on top of the new and upcoming items - but there's something so special about 'vintage' Tupperware. It may be that it reminds me of being a child...the Salt and Pepper Shakers that my grandmother had, the canisters that my mom had...seeing it again these days just takes me back! Well, with the help of my Ebay addiction, I have been able to locate all kinds of vintage pieces and here is something that I ordered today...

How absolutely awesome is this set??!! I fell in love the moment I saw it! The description said that it was in basically perfect condition other than 2 little spots under the seal, which it pictured, but that it does not keep the seal from working. I can not wait to get this in! Hopefully I'll have it by the end of the week :)

And this little guy...I found him for $1.59, great condition! It's Tupperware also...the Bashful Pig Cookie Cutter! How cute is he?? I have a little crush on pig's, and this guy will mesh well with my other "kitchen pig's"! These are both an early birthday present from me to myself...love it!

Beach, July 2010...

If anyone is still reading this, I am alive, just lazy! I apologize for my lack of attention to my blog, but I will try my best to be better :)

Now, on to the summer. We were thrilled when Josh's mom asked us to go to the beach with her - One, we've never been on a family trip together and two, we didn't think we would be able to go on a trip this summer after paying for the fertility meds. We had a blast! The weather was gorgeous, mega hot, but gorgeous. We played in the water, soaked up the sun and ate seafood - what could be better?? We left on Thursday and got home (sniff, sniff) on Monday. And let me just say, we stayed in Gulf Shores and the water was super clear, we didn't see a single tar ball, and the restaurants were spectacular! Here are some pics from our time in the Gulf...

First stop...The Derailed Diner - yum...that's all I can say!

We stopped at the Derailed Diner in Robertsdale on our way to the beach, and let me just tell you, we were NOT disappointed! It had great food, and such wonderful charm :)

We also stopped there on the way out for breakfast...hey, if you're going to brag about a place, you at least better know all your stuff! :)

First, thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for your kind words on the last post. You have no idea what they mean to us! We both ok, and definitely not giving up. Looking at the glass half-FULL, so to speak.

In other news - if any of you ladies are interested, a group of us are going to the BJCC Friday, September 24, to see "Legally Blonde, the Musical"! I am soo excited!! I've heard great things about it and can't wait to see it for myself! Tickets (if we have 15 or more) will be $47.50 each and they will be ordered this week. Nevermind - not enough people, but if you still want to go, we can try to get seat close to each other - and tickets do not have to be ordered until August 8! Just let me know :) It will be a fun girl's night - bring a friend! The more the merrier!!

Yesterday, for the room where my grandmother's furniture is going in our house, I was delivered an antique chest that has been in the family since the 1940's! It is adorable, needs a little work, but will be perfect with Ma's furniture and the "country chicness" that I want for that room!! Can't wait for it all to come together!

OH! I don't think I've mentioned this at all, but Josh's mom invited us to go to the beach with her at the end of this month - talk about much needed!!! We are too excited! I know that we probably won't be able to get in the water, but just the idea of going somewhere to relax for 4 nights - I'm thrilled :) This will also be a great opportunity to use my camera!!!

Not as we had hoped...

So things don't always go as WE plan. Josh and I went in for the IUI this morning, and after some tests, were told that going further this time would just be a waste of money. The doctor did leave it up to us, but in that moment, who knows what's best? We just looked at each other and said that we would just wait. It was a hard decision. What I wanted to say was "of course we want to move forward with it!!!!!". I wanted to scream that at the top of my lungs. I was saying it in my head so much, just hoping that he could hear my thoughts.

It's ok though.

If it wasn't meant to be, it wasn't meant to be. What's funny though - I was a ROCK when we left there. Josh, my sweet, loving, funny yet sensitive when need be husband, was distraught. I know that he will not mind me saying this. He has feelings too - we don't always think about how much this affects the men in our lives. They hurt too! But I was strong - I tried to make him laugh (which is what I do in times like this). I told him that it was ok - doctor's don't know everything. We could very well get pregnant "on our own".

We are going to be ok!

I totally understand why there are so many couples out there who do NOT talk about their struggles with infertility. I didn't want to come back to work and have to answer all their questions with "we couldn't do it this time". I wanted to come back and say "be nice, I may be with child!" That's tough. But I feel strong, and I feel that sharing this with you guys, and the world, that maybe I can help someone else going through similar events. Maybe someone will read this and know that they are in no way, shape or form alone.

It's all going to work out - we just have to be patient and trust in the Lord! That's all we can do - that's all we need to do.

T-minus 20 hours...

So tomorrow morning at 7:00 a.m., we go in for the IUI!!!! AH! I'm so excited about it! As I said in the last post, I just have a good feeling. But at the same time, if it doesn't take, we're going to be ok!

Josh gave me the HCG shot last night - can I say OUCH?? I admit it, I'm a bit of a wimp when it comes to needles. I did find with the injections all week, but this mama jama needle was ridiculous! First, we weren't exactly sure where to give the shot (all the Follistim injections were given in my belly). So we watched the video tutorial on the Novarel website. At this point, I have seen the needle, but I was sure we were going to be able to switch to the smaller one. No ma'am! Because the crazies in the video didn't switch it, Josh thought we better keep the big one on there.

Well we watch the video and the "husband" mixes the medication and then extracts it from the vial. In the meantime, the insane wife turns around to look at the husband and says something like "I'm ready!" with the biggest stinkin grin on her face! WHAT??!!! I turned to Josh and informed him that this woman has got to be on some kind of feel good medication! So we get ready, I literally scream as he's doing it - I have never had a shot like that! I'm sure that some of you have had the same thing, and more than 1 in your life time, but as I said above, I'm a wimp! ha!

Anyway, my body should be on it's way to ovulation and tomorrow morning the insemination will take place. Please keep us in your thoughts through these next 2 weeks (the dreaded 2 week wait is upon us!). I appreciate it!!!

Next post, I want to share some fabric ideas for our soon to be guest room, and see what you all think. I hope that everyone has a lovely week!

Tomorrow, tomorrow...

we should find out a lot tomorrow regarding where we stand. I started the Follistim injections Saturday night (150 iu's), had one Sunday, Monday and will tonight as well. Tomorrow morning, I go in for bloodwork and an ultrasound to see if I have viable follicles. Also, they will be looking for one of the following:

- Are my follicles overstimulated from the Follistim? (if so, we'll have to wait until next month to try again)
- Are my follicles under stimulated? (if so, I will continue the medication for a day or so, and then have another ultrasound)
- Are my follicles viable and just right? (THIS IS WHAT WE WANT!!)

If they are just right (I feel like Goldie Locks and the 3 bears, ha!), then they will tell me when to give myself the HCG Trigger Shot which will tell my body to start the ovulation process. Once I do that, my IUI will be scheduled within 36 hours!! How exciting is that??!!

I'm not living in a bubble, and I know that this still may not be our time, but I just feel so incredibly good about it this time! Not sure why, but it's a good feeling! Continuing to pray that it IS our time :)

I hope that everyone had a great 4th! We celebrated Saturday with my mother-in-law and sister-in-law. We had a great time! Lots of good food, fun and laughs! Yesterday we did a lot around the house. I am a cleaning/throwing out fool! We are getting ready to get furniture from my grandmother's house that she wants us to have. I absolutely can not wait to get it all in and start decorating. Speaking of decorating...have any of you watched Sarah's House on HGTV?? I am absolutely in love! She has totally taught me that things DO NOT always have to have the same pattern or match - Prints, paisleys and stripes...bring it on! My eyes have been opened to a whole new world of options and I'm ready to play!!

So since my last post about our journey to parenthood, I have received some answers to a few questions. I contacted Dr. Bates' nurse, LeeAnn (who I have heard such great things about, and they all seem to be right!) to see if she could give me the name of the fertility medication and how much we might have to pay out of pocket next week. She told me that we would be taking Follistim (which I have done tons of research on since finding that out) and gave me the number to a pharmacy in Birmingham that deals specifically with fertility meds. I called them, told them the name and dosage, and for how many days I might be taking it.

I then picked my jaw up off the ground...really? Then she told me how much OUR portion will be. It was half the original amount. That was better, and I'm extremely thankful that my insurance covers 50% of fertility medication. But still...open jaw here!

Well Josh and I have secretly been fretting this...I haven't said a word to him though, and he hasn't said a word to me about it. But I still know that we're both thinking "how can we do this". We've looked at our budget though, and with our spending habits, we really waste a lot of money...and I do mean WASTE! We're going to just have to be disciplined and strict about how we spend our money and that means cutting out one of the things that we love to do...going out to eat! Now we don't go out every day, but a few days a week we'll either pick up something or go grab a bite. Those little trips add up. I never realized it until I NEEDED to realize it. Once I added it up, I realized that if we eat at home and pack our lunch every day, we can get pretty close to that "jaw dropping" number! That makes me feel 100 times better!

I know that it's all going to work out one way or another...I know that neither of us needs to stress about the cost, because if it's meant to be, it's meant to be. I know that we don't need to worry about whether or not this is going to work...I feel very strong that it will, but I know if it doesn't, it's still just not our time.

I feel at peace with all that's going on in our life - in His time, not ours!

Top 2 Tuesday: Top 2 Reality TV Shows...

The topic this week at The Undomestic Momma is...Top 2 Reality TV Shows. Now if you know me even a little bit, you know that I am a MAJOR Reality TV Show Junkie!! Oh how I heart them so!! :) I don't know that I could actually have JUST a top 2 though!! Here are the 2 that come to mind first, then there's just a list of all the ones I watch...

1. The Biggest Loser - It amazes me how much strength these folks have to get on the show, sharing their life and emotions with us week after week, and the incredible transformations that they make in a matter of months! Now for some reason, every time, or almost every time that we watch the show, I sit there with a bowl of ice cream - um...I think that's defeating the purpose, right?? ha!

2. Top Chef! I wish I had half the talent in the kitchen that the folks on this show have! They can create anything, and I mean ANYTHING out of whatever ingredient, challenge they are given. Two thumbs up!!

Doctors and cooking classes...

So we have a new doctor and it is...Dr. Bates at the Kirklin Clinic! We both felt extremely comfortable with him, he gave us options (which was totally new to us) and will let us be as aggressive with treatment as we want (as long as he thinks it's ok). So here's the plan...next cycle (should be the first week in July), I'll start with shots for 7-10 days and then we'll do another IUI. I have only taken clomid before, but he said that there are medications that are much better these days. I already ovulated, but the shots should allow my body to release more eggs. I will have to be evaluated more often, but he feels good about our decision, and so do we.

Now on to cooking classes - I have wanted us to take classes for a while, but just couldn't seem to find one. Well, I just stumbled upon this...

Doesn't that sound like fun?? For one, I've wanted us to do this for a while and second, I've never been to Pepper Place, but have heard it's wonderful! Next step, talk Josh into it!! :)

Tonight is my second photography class, and if weather permits, we're going to downtown Clanton to try out some techniques that we learned in last weeks class. I'm really loving the class and will more than likely sign up for the Exposure class in July! I'll be sure to share my pics from tonight in my next post.

The Loft Tour was...

A.M.A.Z.I.N.G! to say the least! Josh and I absolutely loved it! There were a few people (especially you, Teale) that we kept saying "they have got to come to this next year", because we just knew they would love it! We saw some spectacular lofts. Three in particular. 14 lofts all together.

Before sharing my pictures though, let me tell you how the morning started...I asked Josh when I was getting ready Saturday morning to plug in my camera battery. I got real excited thinking that I we would get downtown early enough to take pictures and I could try out some of the techniques that I learned at my photography class (which I'm loving by the way!). He did. We get everything ready to go, I grab my camera and bag and we head up the interstate. Halfway to Birmingham I said, "you got the battery, right"? Well no! Josh said, "you just told me to plug it up, you never said for me to get it out of the wall". ha! Needless to say, I was a little bummed and secretly thought that he was just pulling my leg and when we got there he would be like, "haha, just kidding, here you go"! No such luck. But, we both have a camera on our phones, so I got a few that way. Well, I took over 50 pictures, but some didn't turn out so great.
Also, it was like 10 million, gazillion degrees Saturday! WOW! I can safely say that I probably lost 5 pounds from all the walking and perspiring I did :) It was all worth it though. Josh and I would both LOVE to live in a condo/loft downtown somewhere. But I want to actually renovate one ourselves...Josh on the other hand would rather turn-key. Maybe we'll get to do one or the other one day! Here are some pics...

This is the other end of the 2 unit made into one loft. In between both kitchen's and living areas were 3 (or 4 bedrooms) with a sitting room connected to the master bedroom. That's also where the book nook was.

And art....art everywhere! Some really, really cool pieces, and some that I would blush if my mom were in the room..ha!

A busy week...

That's something that I rarely say! Sometimes it feels like we have no life at all, but not this week. Actually, not this month! First, Zumba starts back tonight. (If you're in the Calera area, come join us!!) I have that on Monday and Thursdays, but for the next 3 Thursdays, I'll be unable to make it. Want to know why??? Because I'm attending a photography class at a local community college!! It's just for 3 weeks, 2 hours per session, and at the end, we have a photo shoot!! Doesn't that sound like fun??? I can't wait! I got my little parking pass in the mail Saturday and that got me really excited about it :) Doesn't take much, people!

Then this Saturday, we have the loft tour in downtown Birmingham! We are thrilled about attending this! It doesn't start until 1, so we wanted to get down there a little early to eat somewhere we've never been. Any suggestions??? I've never eaten in Birmingham, so anything will be new to me! I'm not sure if they allow pictures, but if so, I'm taking my camera just in case :)

Next week, we now have 2 consultations with new Fertility Specialists. We go to see Dr. Bates at the Kirklin Clinic Tuesday, and Dr. Houserman at the ART Wednesday! I'm been praying for guidance to know where to go from there. I can imagine that this will not be an easy decision by any means. Please keep us in your prayers as well as we continue with our journey to becoming parents.

Thanks for the feedback, ladies! Even though I hate for anyone to have to go through what we are going through, it helps to "know" someone with experience. Would I absolutely LOVE for all fertility specialists to be put out of business because no one needs them, of course! But thank you for your recommendations.

We have a consultation with Dr. Bates on the 15th, and I'm going to call the Art to schedule one as well. I feel like we're interviewing these guys, ha! Hopefully we'll know which one to choose and get some answers soon!!

I hope everyone has a lovely weekend! We're headed to Prattville tomorrow for the day to visit with my family...hope the weather is nice!

Need some help...

Ok, Josh and I are kind of in a time crunch and need some help. We are at a point where we are questioning whether or not to continue with our current Fertility Specialist or to use another. With my current one, I have one more IUI with Clomid left. I don't feel that this is what we need, but at the same time, I'm afraid of going somewhere new and possibly having to start over. Hopefully that wouldn't be the case since most of our tests were run last year.

This is where those of you who have been there, done that, come in. Here is a list of doctors in the Birmingham area that have over time, been suggested to me:

- Dr. Bates
- Dr. Blackwell
- Dr. Houserman
- Dr. Steinkamph

If you have had any experience with any of these doctors, good or bad, I would love it if you would share with me. You don't have to leave a comment here if you don't want to, but you can email me at jones41704@bellsouth.net. I would greatly appreciate any feedback!

If we are going to do the 3rd and final IUI, I would need to start Clomid in the next couple of days. I just wish the right decision was more clear...

Bad timing...

So I'm venting this time. I thought this was our month, finally! I was so excited already, and wanted to go buy a test and POAS (pee on a stick). Josh was telling me to just wait until I was a week late. We didn't want another disappointment. As of today, I thought that I was 3 days late (due last Thursday).

Well, for some reason I counted my days again today, recounted, recounted again and then wrote all the days out only to realize that AF isn't due until tomorrow. Tomorrow! I'm not even due for it yet! Am I insane?? How could I have miscounted that badly??? I have had myself convinced that this was it!

And yes, I know that it still could be, but I fooled myself. How could I full myself so easily into thinking that I was pregnant and feeling the "symptoms"?? Why do I continue to let my emotions take hold? If this isn't the month, I don't know whether to go on with the fertility doctor, to try a new doctor or to just wait. I'm confused. I've been praying to be led in the right direction, but what if I mislead myself?

Sounds like a sitcom title, right?? ha! Here are a few fun things that I have found browsing for outdoor dinnerware this week...Oddly enough, they were all red except for the flamingo & pig - who both just happen to be my favorite color...pink!

BBQ Chicken & Pineapple, with a side of gardening...

So I've been in the mood to cook this week (yeah, I don't know WHAT has come over me???). Anyway, Tuesday evening I brined some chicken breasts (cut them up and everything! I was a little bit proud of myself :), then when Josh got home, he put them on the grill. I cut up a pineapple and that too went on the grill. Then, I peeled and chopped a sweet potato, red onion, red potato (with the skin) and fresh green beans. Put them all on a baking sheet, drizzled some Olive Oil, dashed a little Kosher Salt and placed some rosemary on top. That baked for about 25 minutes. Can I just say YUUUMMMMYYYY!! Oh my, it was a delicious combination. And the chicken, to die for!!

Well, I had a plan all along for the leftover chicken and pineapple. Here's what we did for supper tonight...

First, I sauteed red onion and bell pepper until fairly soft (I would add red pepper next time)...

The leftover BBQ chicken...let me just say, I had NEVER marinated my chicken in a brine before...I will NEVER NOT do that again! It changed the taste 110%! It was hard to not eat that stuff cold as I was shredding it :)

Leftover, grilled pineapple - without a doubt, one of the best fruits on the planet?! Who agrees???

Then I married them all in the saute pan...

Added a little extra BBQ sauce - I'm definitely a Sauce junkie. Whether it's BBQ, honey mustard, hot mustard, Heinz 57, ketchup or cocktail - I'm all over it!

And so I poured just a tad...

And now for the mother of all yummy goodness - C-H-E-E-S-E!!! Can I get a "aaaahhhhhhhhh" melody going??

Monterey Jack...soo good!

Get out your tortillas...

Get our your handy, dandy quesadilla maker - I would have also liked to have put this on the grill once it was done, or in the oven just to crisp it up a bit.

And the end result...Two thumbs up!! It was extremely flavorful, but you must like pineapple because the flavor is definitely a bit strong. Another addition for next time...a little crumbled up Apple Wood Bacon...doesn't that sound great??

And now on to the garden - This is my second year to maintain a small garden, and I must say, it's going pretty good!!

I know, I know...I totally skipped out last week. Why? One because we were super busy that week, and while I made some changes, none were really blog worthy. But this week...I think this change is definitely blog worthy...

I re-joined Weight Watchers Online!! I'm stoked! If you've been reading my blog from the beginning, then you know that I had huge success (no pun intended) with this before. Birmingham Loft Tour...

I am super excited about this...The Birmingham Loft Tour benefiting the Literacy Council is Saturday, June 12th from 1:00-5:00. I never even knew that this existed! Josh always, ALWAYS, talks about us moving into a downtown loft and totally renovating it...you know, with the exposed brick, old wood floors, track lighting :) I absolutely can not wait!! The tour is self-guided. There are at least 12 lofts to see and tickets are just $20 each. AND, proceeds benefit the Literacy Council!! Plus, you get a one-year subscription to B-Metro Magazine. Top 2 Tuesday...To do before you die...

It's my second week to participate in The Undomestic Momma's Top 2 Tuesday - This weeks top 2 is to do before you die. While there are thousands of things that I would like to do before I die, here are 2 of those...

Become a mother - You all know how badly Josh and I want to become parents. This is something that I know will happen one day, whether we conceive a child, adopt and/or foster. This is something, Lord willing, that I WILL do before I die.

My second one isn't so serious...I WANT TO BE ON A GAMESHOW! My preference???

And just what game do I want to play on the ever so great "The Price is Right"???

Oh, what fun that would be! Maybe, just maybe I'll get my chance one day :)

Top 2 Tuesday...Dream Houses

This is the first "Top 2 Tuesday" that I have participated in - Over at The Undomestic Momma, this weeks top 2 is dream houses. I love this topic! When I was little, my brother and I would draw out our "dream home" and both of ours would have a room for every little thing that you could think of, and of course, what home would be complete without a tennis court, basketball court and football stadium?? Hello! ha! I have my real "dream home" all mapped out in my head, but here are a couple of pics to give you an idea of what I would like...

Number one...a wrap around porch. I want a big ole porch with rocking chairs and a swing that I can sit on with a cool breeze outside and sip on sweet tea (can I get anymore southern??). And a house could not be complete without a white picket fence!!

A home that with tons of windows, and is somewhat secluded. I want to hear the crickets and a rooster crow in the morning. I should have been raised on a farm...ahh, that's the life :)

Here are a couple of pictures of my dream kitchen too...

Open and entertaining....that's what I want.

Granite counter tops, a bar for people to sit around so that the cook can enjoy the company too! These pictures are from the Southern Living website...I just love their home ideas and house plans!! I just drool over them sometimes :)

Make a change, Monday and Mother's Day...

Week 2 of Make a change, Monday, is here! I didn't make many changes last week, but here is what I did do...

- I'm parking in one of the farthest spaces at work, so therefor increasing my steps each day.

- I've started a compost and will hopefully have some nice compost tea for my garden within the next week. Anything and everything that can be added to it, I'm recycling. Banana peels and apple cores especially. Oh, and coffee grounds! If you have a good recipe for compost, please share :)

- I've worked on a special relationship, and tried to mend it to the best of my ability. It's crazy how we let emotions take hold and say things we don't mean, but things that we know will hurt the recipient. I've been on the receiving end of hurtful words this past week, and it amazes me how it changes your perspective on things.

Ok, so I know those changes might not sound significant, but to me, they are. Have you made a positive change this week?

On to Mother's Day...Josh and I had a great weekend. We spent Saturday with his mom, and I think we all had a good time! We cooked out and then played the Wii...my arm was definitely paying for it yesterday :) I have some pics that I'll upload of Josh showing his mom the ropes...she was pretty good for a beginner! Saturday night I took my mom on a date...we had Mexican food and then saw "Date Night". I knew we both needed a good laugh, and I had a great time...hope you did too, mom! Sunday, my mom, Ma (grandma), Josh and I went to church and came home to a roast that I had put in the crockpot that morning. It was a nice, relaxing day.

I have to give thanks for the mother's in my life...my mom, Ma, and Betty, my mother-in-law.

I love all of you and thank you for being there for us through the years! Thank you mom for being there for me, and thinking that I'm hilarious even when I'm just being a goofball. Thank you for loving us, and taking care of us. Thank you for supporting us in our journey to parenthood. Thank you for taking such good care of Ma and Pa...you are a wonderful daughter-in-law to them and I know they appreciate you more than they can express.

Thank you Ma for raising a son who loved his children beyond words. Thank you for loving us and taking us on trips to see the US and wanting to spend time with us. Thank you for taking us to church and being supportive. Now that we have to take a little more care of you, thank you for putting your trust in us to do so.

Thank you Betty for also raising a son who loves and supports me in every way possible. Thank you for raising Josh to be a loving, good man. Thank you for all you've done over the past 6 years. Thank you for supporting us in our journey to parenthood. Thank you for being a friend to me.

This year, mother's day was not as bad for me as it has been in the past. I have a sense of peace about not yet being a mother, because I know that one day, one way or another, I will hold that very special title and be called "mommy".

I hope all of you who have children, are expecting children, are missing children, and are longing for children felt blessed in your own, special way yesterday.

Make a change, Monday…

Ok, so my inspiration for “Make a change, Monday” is from watching Julie & Julia this past weekend. First, I must say that I loved that movie. It was great, and now I want Julia Child’s cookbook! (hint, hint, Birthday gift). Anyway, if you are not familiar with the movie, Julie Powell, a secretary for a government agency decides to start a blog and her focus is 365 days of recipes going through the Julia Child cookbook, Mastering the Art of French Cooking (all 524 recipes in 365 days!). The movie showed Julie’s growth and confidence that she gained in herself over the year of cooking, and the bond that she felt to Julia. It also was a true story about Julia Child, which was very interesting! I highly recommend this movie – Josh even liked it!!

So, here is what Make a Change, Monday is all about: It’s about me getting out of my routine and making small changes, and I do mean small, but changes that will shake up my life a bit (in a good way) and hopefully help me to make healthy/smart habits in the process. I may make one change a week, I may make one change a day. There’s no right or wrong way to go about this, but my goal is 50 changes, 10 new habits and all by December 31.

This may sound silly, but the other thing about Julie Powell is, she had the not so good habit of starting something, but not finishing it. Can you guess who else is like that?? Ding, ding, ding, ding, ding…if you said “Amanda”, you’re right! I consider myself the world’s worst at this…I have the best of intentions, but rarely do I last or accomplish my goal.

I am really looking forward to this challenge though. I would love for you to join me! The changes, as I said, do not have to be significant. It can be as small as taking a different route to work…maybe you’ll find that it saves you time, or you’ll just see the beauty of a scenic route. Maybe you, like me, need to add steps to your day. Beginning today, I’m going to park in the farthest parking spot from the door, rather than my regular one 2 or 3 spaces from the front door. If you don’t know what kind of change to make, just read mine over the next few weeks, and see if you’ve done anything similar, or out of your ordinary. We are all creatures of habit, to a degree. Some more than others. The idea is to get out of your rut…make a change!

I hope everyone has a wonderful week, and start making those changes! Day one begins…..NOW!

Stress...yeah, you can call it that...

The last several months have been stressful for not only Josh and myself, but for my entire family. We have had my grandmother living with us during the week, with my brother on the weekend and my grandfather in long-term care. We have been trying to make decisions about where my grandmother will stay long-term (an apartment or something) for her, because she doesn't want to make that decision. At the same time, I wrestle with the fact that I don't believe my grandfather needs to be in long-term care. I would rather him be out and living with my grandmother, and us just have someone care for them when we can't be there. Then, we have to worry about my grandmother going back to waiting on his every little need, when she can't physically do that anymore.

It's all a big ol' ball of mess, and all we can do is pray for clarity. Please keep us all in your prayers as we go through this difficult, confusing time. I really appreciate it!

In other news, I never got the happy face for ovulation last month, so I ended up taking the clomid, right now as far as I know, for nothing. I guess we missed it somehow?! Even with all the other things going on, the "infertility" and all that goes with it has still been deep in our minds and heavy on our hearts. We made a decision yesterday to continue trying until the end of this year, and then we will start looking into foster care/adoption.

I don't mean to write a post of gripes...My next post is about some of my new favorite's. It will be much more upbeat and positive!

I could give you excuse after excuse as to why I haven't blogged, but the truth is, I just haven't wanted to! We have been unusually busy over the last month, but that's no excuse to not sit down and write a few lines. My apologies :)

Anyway, Josh and I are good...we will be celebrating our 6th wedding anniversary tomorrow! We actually got married on Saturday, April 17, 2004, and tomorrow, it looks like the weather is going to be almost identical to that very day :) Isn't that something?! We're not doing anything special, just hanging out and of course, Alabama's A-Day game. It should be a great day, just spending it with my buddy.

We are going to have our 3rd and last IUI in a few days (I think it will be Monday, if I'm counting my days correctly). My doctor wanted us to take a month off, so this will be the last. I took the Clomid again, but instead of being mean this time, I'm just sleepy, sleepy! I was asleep before 8:30 the other night!!

In other news, I have been good! lol...as in how I eat, and exercise. It just hit me this week. It's one of those things that you have to get your mind set to actually doing it. I went back to Zumba last night (LOVE IT!), and have only been drinking water for a few days now. I know that I'm not going to lose this pesky weight overnight, but I'm working on it.

I have lots of pictures to post of the rest of our trip, our nephew's, etc. I'll work on that this weekend.

Oh, and we sold our furniture! My brother and sil bought it and it looks great in their home!!!

Not just any sofa, but a leather, Bentley brown sectional. PLUS, a leather ottoman :) We are very excited about our spontaneous purchase (yes, totally spontaneous), but now we have some furniture to sell...

We have a couch, 2-over sized chairs and 2-ottomans (they are actually brown/beige blocked - these are slip covers that my mom made in the picture)...all for $900 OBO!! If interested, please let me know :)

I would love to keep what we currently have along with the new stuff, but our house is MUCH too small!! We have had the furniture above for almost 6 years, and it's in great condition.

Dancing with the Stars...

So I'm a HUGE fan of reality tv, and I'm guessing that Dancing with the Stars would fit into that category. Well, I've never really watched it before, just an episode here or there. This season though, I'm really excited about the cast! It's not necessarily that I like them all, but I'm interested to see their personality on this show.

I'll just admit it, I'm mostly going to watch because of Kate Gosselin, Niecy Nash and Shannon Doherty. Oh, and does anyone else like Kate's hair?? At first, with the 'reverse mullet', I wasn't a huge fan, but it grew on me. However, I am NOT a fan of the extensions! Kate, if you're reading this (ha!!), I loved your hair before!! If I was your size, I would love that style for myself!!

So, is anyone else going to be watching?? Don't forget, 2 hour premier tonight on ABC!!

PS...I will try my very best to post the rest of the pics from our trip to Gatlinburg tonight or tomorrow!!

Gatlinburg Vacation, part 1...

As readers of this blog already know, Josh and I went on vacation last week...it was much needed and very much enjoyed! It was by far the most relaxation either of us has had in a long time...very difficult to leave!! I'm working on my pictures right now, and my time is somewhat limited too, so I'm going to just break it down into vacation "installments". Here are a few from our first day (before I do that, I'll let you know that we ended up leaving early Thursday evening because we just couldn't wait to get away :) - we made it as far as Ft. Payne and stayed at a Holiday Inn Express, and boy did we feel smart!!)

I took these on our way in to Pigeon Forge - The pictures do not do those gorgeous mountains justice...seriously, it looked like a painting!! I kept telling Josh "those mountains are NOT real!"...he kept laughing and assured me they were, and that at no time had someone put up a canopy to fool me.

As nice as it was to get away and just relax for a few days, I was a little bummed because it rained the entire time! Do you see any sunshine in the pics above?? Didn't think so. That's about all of the mountain pics you'll see...we decided to not even drive into the national park, just because it was so yucky.

Once we made it into Gatlinburg, we found our cabin, got settled in and then went back to town to the Hard Rock Cafe - Josh had never been to one before. It was super yummy (gotta get a cheeseburger there!) and our waiter was nice, and extremely silly.

Since those were all of the pics I had for our first day, I'll go ahead and blog some about day two as well.

This begins my pictures of Cobbly Nob and then some of what we did on Saturday...

Most important meal of the day...breakfast! Since we stayed in a cabin at Cobbly Nob, we had FREE breakfast every morning...whatever we wanted!!

This was the entrance to the market...They would even deliver groceries if we wanted!!

Of course anything relating to Coca Cola, I must take a picture...

And this beautiful, yummy plate of food was mine!! Can't pass up biscuit and gravy, and definitely not a piece of country ham!!

After we ate, we headed to downtown Gatlinburg. It was so very crowded!! I guess it was spring break all around the southeast. We parked and walked all over. We decided to go to Ripley's Believe it or Not, did the Mirror Maze, the Aquarium and then went to the Wax Museum...oh yeah, and made time for a lemonade and funnel cake!!

Isn't it a beaut!

Daah duh, daah duh, dah duh, dah duh, dah duh!! (That's my theme music from Jaw's :)

We did grab lunch at Bubba Gump's - That's my baby! Like his Captain America shirt that I got him???

I have never felt so tiny in my life :o)

And neither has Josh :o)

The list to the right...

Slowly but surely, I am able to mark things off of my "Baby Bucket List". So far, I can mark through:

- Make drinking 100 oz of H2O daily a habit
- Perfect my "crocheting" skills

Ok, so that's only 2 items, but it's a start! The 100 oz of water a day has been fairly easy, but I MUST have Crystal Light for flavor. Still not bad though, and better than 100 oz of coke a day :) Right now, my most favorite Crystal Light flavor is Peach Mango Green Tea...it's yummy!

I also still love the Wild Strawberry flavor, but it contains caffeine, and I've tried my best to steer clear of that stuff. Oh, and along with the 100 oz of water, I've added approximately 500 steps a day...going back and forth to the restroom!!

The other item was perfect my crocheting skills. While they aren't perfect, I have learned how to crochet baby beanie hats, and they are just adorable! My mom and I picked up a couple of books at JoAnn's on Saturday with different crochet patters. So much cute stuff and I personally LOVE homemade clothing, blankets, etc. Also, crocheting is extremely relaxing to me...who knew?! I still have trouble finishing off stuff (I have 2 scarves that I have yet to complete because I can't finish them), but I will continue to work on that.

I'll post a picture of my pink/brown beanie when I finish it :)

In the meantime, I'm going to continue working on my list. Soon, it will be time to work in the garden...can't wait!!

3 days and counting until Vacation Gatlinburg!!! Woohoo! Josh is pretty sick right now, and going back to the doctor at 3 today, so I hope he's feeling better by Friday! If not, I guess I'll just have to drive myself...just kidding! It wouldn't be the same without my best bud :)

Some fertility news and vacation...

So we had our second IUI 2 weeks ago today, and now another month has gone by and we're still not pregnant. Am I sad, of course, but for some reason, I just knew it wouldn't happen this time. I'm not trying to be a pessimist, I just felt it. Dr. S wants us to take a month off and not take the clomid or have an IUI. I'm kind of thankful...besides being a beast and craving anything and everything involving chocolate, I think we need this break - which leads me into our vacation this coming up weekend...

I am soo looking forward to this weekend...just the two of us out on the road! Time for us to focus on US. I don't want to think about work, the house or getting pregnant..we need some "us" time, and we're finally getting it! Four more days...say it with me! :o)

Hooo's Lookin Back...

That's where we're stayin, in a cabin called "Hooo's Lookin Back"...it's located at Cobbly Nob in Gatlinburg. After looking at what felt like hundreds of cabins in North Carolina, Georgia and Tennessee, we both decided this was the best fit! Josh grew up staying at Cobbly Nob and has so many fond memories. I'm really excited about us started a tradition there :)

Oh, and we got an awesome deal...3 nights for the price of 2!! I'm going to blog about our entire trip from beginning to end. It's about time we went somewhere, and not just for the day. Can you sense how stinkin excited I am about staying somewhere OVERNIGHT!!! AHHH!

The Living Area...Can't wait to sit by the fire!! I need some sticks and marshmallows :)

And the hot tub!! I have never been in one before! Can we say,

r-e-l-a-x-a-t-i-o-n??!!

I'll be sure to take lots and lots of pictures :)

Ok blog world friends...we need some help! Not that kind of help, but help finding a place to stay next weekend! Josh and I are NOT good at making decisions about things like this...actually, we stink at it!

Soo, I think we've decided to find a place in Gatlinburg (it's been YEARS since either of us has been there). Now I know that some of you have been there and/or go there every year for a vaca! My question is, know of a good place to stay?? We would love a cabin :) I've never stayed in one before. And trust me, I have looked at many, many, many, but I have a hard time looking past the decor, ha! You know what I mean. I'm going to get over that though and just know that it's a place to sleep. We'll be on the roads most of the time traveling through North Carolina.

Where should we stay??? The ball's in your court now :o) Any and all help is greatly appreciated!!!!!

North Carolina! Don't ask why, it's just somewhere neither of us have been, and it's far from home :o) So...have you been? What did you do, what did you see? Is there a special place that we should visit? Any good restaurants?? Our main place of stay is going to be Asheville, but we plan to travel all over at least one day!

I am toooooooo excited! We have not been on a vacation, like a real live overnight vacation in a dog's age! I'm pumped, and Josh is too!! He has always wanted to live there...random I know.

You know what this means for me, right??? Lot's and lot's and LOT'S of pics with the new camera...eeehhhhh!!

30 Years Ago Today...

One of the great blizzards in NC and southeast VA history occurred in early March 1980.

***And in Alabama! A very special couple didn't get to make their way to the honeymoon destination because roads were iced over and closed March 1, 1980...

My dad passed away 14 years ago tomorrow, March 2. Today, March 1, would have been my parents 30th wedding anniversary, and I can say without a doubt in my mind, that if he were still here, they would still be happily married.

First came the peanut butter filled, chocolate dipped bugles...

I ended up with 8 pans, each with 6 or 7 rolls...

These were ooey, gooey...I had to not be so messy with the second batch.

After 4 hours of baking, I was a bit on the exhausted side...

We had to taste test...what kind of cooks would we be otherwise ;o)

The 30 Day Shred Begins TODAY!

Over the weekend, Josh and I went to Costco with our friends, Chris and Brandee. Well, I spotted 'Jillian Michaels' 30 Day Shred' for $7.99 - how could I pass it up??? We bought it and will start the workouts tonight. Supposedly, we should be able to lose up to 20 lbs. in a month...we'll see!

And can I just say, Costco is the bomb?! We have soo got to get a membership!!

Boy oh boy oh boy...You guys weren't lyin' when you told me about mood swings and clomid! I have had the mother of all mood swings today. I walked in to work, a coworker said something, just joking (I'm an easy target!), and I flew off the handle!! I went off and said some things that I shouldn't have. Well within 5 minutes I was crying my eyes out, hugging and apologizing. What in the world?! That is not me at all...I'm a sensitive person, but what was said should not have hit me the way it did. I felt and still feel horrible.

I called Josh and told him about it...he told me to just relax, and joked that he was just glad it wasn't directed at him for once :) I hope these mood swings will subside (I'm sure everyone around me does as well)!!

We will have our 2nd (and hopefully last) IUI in the next few days. Josh's dad told him this morning that he just knows it's going to work this time...I hope he's right! Keep your fingers crossed!!

So we are having a problem with mice at work...literally, one got into a coworkers drawer last week and destroyed her bag of peanut M&M's...NOW, it is getting closer and closer to my desk! It ate another coworkers rice krispie treat that she had for her children...in her drawer! First, how on earth are they getting into closed drawers and second...I need the power to levitate! I am not a rodent fan, and definitely not a beady eyed rodent fan! Y'all, it's getting closer...and I bet it can smell fear! I'm sure it's plotting and just waiting on me to drop a crumb from my lunch...I'll be surrounded with no where to go!!

I hope y'all enjoyed that...the picture of me in constant fear of a mouse...sweatin bullets and getting no work done from "standing" guard!!!!!

As a rule, Josh and I don't celebrate "Valentine's Day"...instead, we celebrate the day after. Why?? Well because that's the day that Josh proposed to me :) It's our "engagement anniversary"...I can hear the "Awwww's" now! Well, we're trying to decide what to do, where to go. We want to try out a new place for dinner. We try our best to eat at home and only go out for special occasions or "just because" every once in a while. I do know that I might be getting a great gift that I've been wanting for quite some time...I'll post about it WHEN I get it...ha!

So what are your plans? Do you and your significant other celebrate this, although extremely commercialized, special day? I would love to read about your plans!

I hope everyone is enjoying this yucky day...I still have a headache (I'm pretty sure it's caffeine withdrawal), and I'm starved! Of course, I forgot my lunch at home, but I guess it won't hurt me to skip a meal every now and then ;)

That's how I'm feeling today, just blah. I have had a migraine since yesterday, which I know is solely from stress. I would have given almost anything to stay in bed this morning, but I'm trying my best to save my days for future doctor appointments. Not that I need them at this time though...AF showed her ugly face this weekend, so no October baby. I'm ok though...I'm changing some things in my diet and daily activity, so we'll try again this month. I'm starting back with the Clomid today, and we'll have another IUI later in the month.

The part of my diet that I'm going to try to change, besides restricting caffeine, is to eat gluten free foods. Now you all know that I'm a big ole hypochondriac, and I will not hesitate to self-diagnose myself with some sort of disease :) Well, I don't know how I ran across it, but Celiac disease can cause unexplained infertility, as well as several other problems. I read a study where 15 women, ages 22-64, who had been diagnosed with unexplained infertility, went on GF diets...within 2-24 months, 14 out of the 15 conceived...guess which one didn't...the 64 year old! With those numbers, it's definitely worth a shot to me! I have not gone to the doctor to get tested, but I thought that I could definitely just change the way I eat, and eliminate gluten from my diet, and we'll just see how I feel, and above all, if I get pregnant! If any of you have experience eating gluten free, I would love recipes, a food list, etc. I'll keep you updated on my progress.

In other parts of my world, my family and I are dealing with putting my grandparents into long term care. It has been a tough start to the new year for all of us, and I would appreciate prayers on behalf of my family. We're still far from over this hump.

This Saturday, the 13th, my sweet Nephew John-Bradley will celebrate his 3rd birthday! I can't believe he's about to be 3!! We will be in Prattville Saturday for the festivities of his birthday, and my precious cousin Ashton's bday, who will be 2 on Friday! I'll definitely dedicate a blog post to the 2 of them this week :)

Oh, and I almost forgot something extremely important...I won 12 coupons for FREE Krispy Kreme donuts from iheartpublix!! Josh asked if we could use all 12 at one time and get a free dozen ;) I don't know that this will be on the gluten free diet, but I know a couple of people to share the coupons with!

Prayers requests, insemination, the whole shebang!

This is just a quick post...I'll follow later with more details and possibly pictures (if Josh allows :) First, please keep my grandmother, Rachel Bulger, in your prayers. This is her second visit to the hospital in less than a week, both times for falling from losing her strength. She said that she just goes weak and falls. Luckily, no breaks. She ended up staying in the ICU last night but has since been moved to a room. Her magnesium, sodium and electrolytes have been low. Please pray for her to regain strength. Also, please keep my grandfather in your prayers, that he will be patient and take in everything we are telling him.

On another note, we had our first (and hopefully ONLY), IUI (intrauterine insemination) yesterday morning. The procedure was extremely easy on my part and we should know in a couple of weeks if I'm carrying a little Joshua or not :o) Please keep us in your prayers as well as we continue this journey to parenthood!!

This is something that I’ve struggled with my entire life. I am NEVER confident about anything that I do. For example, I made a cake last night. A from scratch Carrot Cake with homemade cream cheese icing. I used a recipe, followed it to the letter and it looks (looked) great! But, from the time that I started making it last night until right now, after 12 people have eaten a piece, I am not confident in its taste, my ability to follow a recipe and instructions, my ability to wrap it correctly and definitely not in that others will think that it’s worth eating! Where does that come from?

Well, I know where I get it: my mother. She is a wonderful cook, a terrific sewer (is that a word?), and talented at many other things, but she doesn’t give herself credit…not one bit. Anytime she comes over and cooks for us, she’ll say, “now this isn’t like it would be if I had used this or that”. But to me and Josh, it’s wonderful! The funny thing is, when she does that, it aggravates me like you wouldn’t believe. It can tend to ruin your fellowship together when someone is dissing their own product. But guess what, I do the same thing! It’s a big, mean circle of not being confident in ourselves. Granted, I may hold a double standard considering that I do it as well, and I’m sure that I can ruin everyone’s good time by doting on how awful whatever I made is going to taste, etc., but it’s ok, because it’s me! Ok, I know it’s not ok, and we should not hold double standards (I’m working on that).

So tell me, where do you get your confidence from? I know that a cake may be a silly thing to worry about, but why not, just once, can I not make something and think that it’s going to be awesome?? If someone doesn’t like it, then they just won’t eat it, right? How do you become more self-confident?? I would love your input!

Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens...

Not exactly sure why, but I wanted that to be the title of this post. The song has been stuck in my head most of the morning. I guess I have an earworm! Anyway, I hope everyone had an enjoyable Christmas and a Happy New Year! I thoroughly enjoyed my 2 weeks off from work but would have enjoyed them much, much more if Josh had been off as well. I did enjoy the days that he did have off though. Maybe one day, our dream of owning our own business and working together will come true! There's always hope, right??

Well, I just wanted to give an update on the "baby" front. This month we will do our first round of Clomid with an IUI...I'm ecstatic! I can't wait. I have never wished for Aunt Flo to visit until now! HA! If my timing is right, I will start the clomid later on this week and then the IUI will take place around the 20th of this month. Ahh! I am praying that it will work the first time, but I know there's a bigger chance of it not. That's ok though. I have given this to God and I know it's all in his hands above all. Just because we go through these treatments does not guarantee a positive outcome. Glad I finally have my head on straight :)

On another note, I heart cooking soo incredibly much and I have The Pioneer Woman to thank! I can't tell you how many recipes of hers I have made in the last week...I'm even making her Chicken Parmigiana recipe tonight! I know that Josh is super excited about this because he never gets Italian...I personally am not a fan, but her recipe doesn't seen too terribly Italiany ;) If you have not been introduced to Ree, check out www.thepioneerwoman.com. She's awesome! Josh ordered her cookbook for me last week and I should, hopefully have it this afternoon! Yea!

Another site I am loving is the Fly Lady...if you are needing to get your house in order and get yourself on a good schedule, check her out as well HERE. I'm kind of cheating though...I'm not going through the baby steps like I should, I'm just going full force into my first zone and the morning and evening routines. I'm so not a rule follower...what a rebel, right?? Ha! I will be sure to keep you updated on my progress...today is my first day of my first zone...the kitchen.

Well, I guess that's it for now. I will try my best to remember to take pics of the meals I'm trying out so that you can view something in the next post instead of just reading my ramblings :)

that you know what's best for someone else? I do! Ok, now don't think that I think that I'm better than anyone else. That's not what I mean. But I do think that sometimes I might know what's best for someone else in certain situations. I'm struggling with one right now - and have been for some time - and I have decided that I'm giving it one BIG shot, and if my thoughts and ideas are not accepted, then I've done all I can do.

Am I right for taking this attitude toward the situation. Should I do this and then butt-out or should I not even be involved to begin with? See, I'm the kind of person who wants everyone to be happy, and I sometimes feel that I know what would make someone happy if they could just see the big picture. I'm sure this is major flaw of mine, but I can't help it. I want everyone to be comfortable and pleased with life in general. I try my best to see the glass half-full. That's sometimes easier said than done, of course. If only I possessed the talent of mind control :)

What are your thoughts...give it a shot or give up? I'm guessing your comments will be 50/50!!

On another note, I go back to the doctor next Tuesday, the 22nd. If I'm not pregnant this month, then next month we start our first round of Clomid with an IUI (intrauterine insemination). I'm excited and nervous all at the same time. If anyone has had experience with this, I would love any advice on what to do/expect! Please keep us in your prayers as we begin this next journey.

Also, I know that those of you who read my blog saw the previous post about Brian and Kristy Gray. Little Helen's funeral was yesterday and Kristy was able attend. I did not go to the service, but from what I've read on Facebook from those who did go, the service seemed to be extremely inspirational and uplifting. This family is one to be looked up to not only for their strength and positive attitudes, but more importantly for their faith in God and for letting him lead them through this. I am simply amazed. Please continue to keep them in your thoughts and prayers as they continue with Kristy's recovery and grieve the loss of their precious child.

The Baby Bucket List...

If you've visited my blog in the last few days, you may have already noticed the "Baby Bucket List" on the right side. What is this you ask? Well, after the extremely depressing week I had last week, I decided to focus on some positives. I still have the ability to do things, you know? Just because I haven't been blessed with a child yet doesn't mean that I haven't been blessed with talents that should be put to good use, or a beautiful world to go out and explore. So I started my baby bucket list in the hopes of accomplishing these things either before pregnancy or before we actually have a child in our life. Each time I complete one of the items on the list, I'll mark it off! Sounds like fun, right??

Literally, yesterday was absolutely horrible! H-O-R-R-I-B-L-E!! Let me start by telling you that we (Josh and I) have been on "vacation" this week. No, we didn't go anywhere, but we both decided this was a good time to take off and just do little things around the house. We have been somewhat successful and somewhat lazy. You know how that goes.

Well, you know about our baby situation, or the lack thereof. Before I go further, I'm just going to warn you, there may be TMI! Anyway, I am as regular as the sun coming up in the morning and setting in the evening. I know exactly when my visitor will make her entrance and usually when she'll leave. Knowing this, she should have arrived Sunday. Well, I was stood up Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Anyone who has gone through infertility knows all too well what I was feeling...

"Oh my gosh, this is real...it's finally happened!! How am I going to tell everyone, how am I going to tell JOSH?? We've got to get that room cleared out for the baby...We've got to get furniture for the baby...Let me check online and see if this is normal...Am I for sure? Could I have taken something to delay my period?? No way, this is it!! I can already feel the "symptoms"...Ok, I need to just go ahead and let Josh know this is it! Josh, I still haven't started and I have all these symptoms. We have to get a test! Will you run and get one??? PLEASE??? And get a 2 pack so we can take it again just to be sure. Let me do a little more research online..."

For those of you who have never been through this, are you feeling me now? Well, on Wednesday, Josh heads to CVS, buys an EPT 2 pack, like I asked, takes a coupon of course (they are soo expensive!) and comes back home.

I take the test...we barely make it the 2 minutes before going back. No plus sign...Two single lines in different windows. 2 broken hearts...again.

At this point, I had siked up both up sooo much, you can't even imagine! Josh was already seeing himself playing with Josh Jr. (no, we haven't picked that as a name, just an example). I was already seeing that room all decorated for a baby girl. But there was no need to so soon. I was literally devastated! I have got myself so excited in the past and convinced myself that I had the pregnancy "symptoms", but then my period would start. Never, ever, have I been as convinced as I was this week. To top it off, we were off work which meant, I can just be online constantly looking things up about early pregnancy symptoms and if spotting is normal 2 to 3 days after a missed period. I could go to the bathroom every 5 minutes because my uterus was pressing on my bladder and I just couldn't help it. I could have my husband go out and purchase a pregnancy test (for which, we really didn't need to spend the money on), and only to have it show that we are indeed NOT pregnant yet again. The tears flowed, and still continue now and then.

How did I let it take a hold of me like that?? I prayed soo hard...I begged God to let me be pregnant this time. I literally BEGGED! I told him that I would be sick every second just to bring a healthy child into the world in 9 months. I just knew he was blessing us with this precious gift. I just knew it!

Then I found out...it's not in his plan for us at this time. I have got to stop thinking that it's in my time and not HIS! I have to! All on my own, I ruined what should have been a relaxing week for the two of us. I did that and I'm so ashamed and embarrassed by it. I got my husband's hopes up so much that he even thought this was it. I broke his heart...that kills me. I've been telling myself that I will never let this happen again...that I'll just stop thinking about it.

You know how hard that is though, right? I have and will continue to pray to God for patience and peace, and for a child. I still trust in him and will continue to do so. I have to have faith and trust in his plan for me...for us. If I don't put this in his hands and just go on living life, I will never be alright.

Show Us Your LIfe - Thanksgiving Recipes and Traditions

Over at Kelly's Korner, this weeks Show Us Your Life topic is Thanksgiving Recipes and Traditions.

I love Thanksgiving and the atmosphere that surrounds it! Plus, you're just that much closer to Christmas :o) I don't really have a special recipe for Thanksgiving, but I do have a special woman who makes a special dish at Thanksgiving!

Her name is Ma...My dad's mom. She has always made, what I happen to think is, the BEST Chicken-n-Dressin'...It's wonderful!!! I have yet to attempt it. Maybe one day I'll tackle that one.

As far as a tradition, well, we definitely have one! My husband's favorite movie, of all time, is "It's a Wonderful Life"...

He absolutely loves this movie and I have grown to love it just as much. Every Thanksgiving, after lunch or dinner, doesn't matter which as long as it's ON THANKSGIVING", we cuddle up and watch it together. It is a very touching movie and usually brings tears to the eyes.

Tomorrow is Halloween!!!

Yea! I'm so excited that tomorrow is Halloween! It is my favorite "holiday"..I love it! As some of you may know, this is Alabama's off week for football. Josh has been a little down about it, but they'll be back next week! Since he knows how much I love Halloween, he has agreed to watch scary movies with me tonight and tomorrow...isn't that sweet?! Now his idea of a scary movie is Ghostbusters and Gremlins...that's about as far as he likes to take it. Ha!! I'm also excited about giving out candy...I'm usually done in like 10 minutes because some of the kids look so darn cute that I end up dumping half the candy into their pumpkins, lol! No joke!!

I hope everyone has a wonderful Halloween and don't forget to set your clocks back...yea, an extra hour of sleep!! :o)

Prayer request...

I am requesting prayers on behalf of myself and Josh. We have not put God first...not in a long time. We have been extremely lazy with our faith and that has to stop. Neither of us has an explanation as to why, but we know that we need to make it right. I know that we can all get down and in a rut from time to time, and sometimes when things don't go our way or the way we "think" they should, we think God just doesn't care. I think we've both done a little of that lately and it's wrong. We will never get to where we hope to be without him in our lives...and not just in them, but as our number one priority!

We are going through some changes, in a positive way, for which we have only God to thank...At the same time, we can both be very impatient when it comes to certain areas of our life. But we have to remember, he knows what's in store for our future, and we have to put our trust and faith in HIM.

We have such wonderful, faithful friends who continually encourage us. I don't know where we would be without you guys! We love you!!

So as I said before, we kept our nephews this past weekend (John-Bradley, 2 1/2 and Rushton, 10 months). We met my brother and sister-in-law Friday night in Verbena and took two sleepy boys to our house...

We got them home and put them straight to bed...JB slept with me and Josh slept on the couch with Rushton in his pack-n-play - can I just say that the pack-n-play is totally awesome and we soo will have one of those when the need arises?! Anyway, the next morning Josh comes in to tell me that Rushton is awake and I should probably go ahead and get up. Well, it was still dark outside, so...I went ahead and got up and let JB sleep a little while longer. It was actually just before 6 at this point. I had our morning all planned...The Old Baker Farm in Harpersville! We were going to get a pumpkin and do whatever else they had for us to do there. Before I go any further though, here are a few pics of Rushton from Saturday morning...

Ok, so Josh goes to get breakfast...McDonalds breakfast! After we ate, we all got ready and headed to the pumpkin patch. It was a little chilly Saturday morning, so we had the boys bundled up...

We got in to the farm and started walking around. By this time, it was 9:30 and already pretty packed. There were vendors selling all kinds of things. The first stop we made was to go and see the farm animals. JB got to pet a baby goat that was soo cute! I tried to get a picture but there were several kids up there at the same time. Next, we headed over to the pile of hay...that's just what it was, a pile of hay! John-Bradley loved it though!!

He probably played on/in the hay for 45 minutes or more!

After he played in the hay, he decided it was time to ride the horse! This boy is fearless!!!

He was a natural on Queenie (the horse)...He wanted to keep riding!

We finally left around noon and came back home to feed the boys and settle in for the 2:30 Alabama/Tennessee game...

As you know, Alabama won, but it was mighty scary there at the end. Once Mt. Cody blocked that field goal, Josh jumped up and screamed, hit the wall with his hand in excitement and then...we heard the cry of one scared baby! HA! John-Bradley assured Rushton that "Uncle Josh isn't mad...he happy!"

So Saturday afternoon, Rushton did not take a nap. Later in the evening, I noticed how warm he felt. Apparently, he was teething. He didn't feel good at all! After putting him to bed, he would begin to cry any time his paci fell out, so I got up and decided to hold him until he fell asleep. Well, that rarely happened. He maybe slept 2 hours that night...and Aunt Mae? Maybe 20 minutes :o) It was crazy though, I didn't feel the least bit tired. I think I was running on adrenaline!

our "Adventures in Babysitting"! We kept our nephews this weekend (John-Bradley is 2 and a half and Rushton is 10 months). We had a blast but also had an eye-opening experience :o)

2 lbs. down! Woohoo! I know it's just 2, but it's still 2, and in 3 days!! I am so excited about this weight loss journey and trying to be healthier!! I can not say enough about myfitnesspal.com...seriously! I have gotten into the habit of entering my food in the online journal before I eat it and if I'm possibly going to go over my recommended calories for the day, I know that I need to make some adjustments. It's great! Writing everything down, or entering it into an online journal really does help with accountability. Also, they have some great forums with recipes, motivation and support, success stories and just questions in general. The last few days, I have participated in a 100 oz. water challenge. I usually finish my 100 oz. by 3:00, and I feel great. Granted I make about 10-12 trips to the bathroom, but we'll call that "cardio"! You will also be happy and proud to know that I have cut my coke intake to one or two a day...I know, I know, what has happened to Amanda?? ha! Josh has also jumped on the wagon and put a profile on myfitnesspal. Hopefully we can support one another in a positive way rather than an enabling way :o) We have started walking a mile. I am going to start the running program, but I'm so out of shape that we are just going to walk for about a week before jumping on board with the couch to 5k plan.

On another note, we are keeping our nephews this weekend...I can't wait!! We are planning to take them to the pumpkin patch. Hopefully the weather will be nice!

As you can see above, I have a weight loss ticker. It shows that I have a goal of losing 41 lbs...Do I need to lose more than 41 lbs?? Yes, without a doubt, but I'm setting smaller goals in order to not overwhelm myself. I have a habit of doing that!

Ok, so if you haven't heard of myfitnesspal.com, then you should definitely check it out! It is FREE and keeps track of your day to day food intake, exercise, water consumption, etc. It is super cool and did I mention, FREE?? A friend at work told me about it...I've played around with it a little, but now I'm serious about it. When it's cold outside and you have no option other than wearing summer clothes, there's a problem! I am frustrated beyond all belief...And I refuse to go out and buy larger clothes. I know who's in control of my weight...me! It's time to change things. While using my fitness pal to track my progress, I'm also going to start a running program that has proven to be extremely successful for several friends. I am not a runner by any means...if I even attempt to run, I think I'm going to die from lack of oxygen!! Hopefully I will be able to start the program and accomplish my goals before long :o)

Right now I'm fighting a cold...hopefully I'll feel 100% better soon! In the days and weeks to come, I will do posts telling you about my progress so that I can be held accountable to not only myself, but you guys as well!! Wish me luck...I need all the motivation and support I can get :o)

MY Birthday! Yesterday, I celebrated my 28th birthday. Josh made it a very special day...He gave me a gift card to JoAnn Fabrics (one just opened in Hoover and I've been dying to go!!), a musical card and dinner last night. We went to Cajun Steamer with Chris, Brandee and Kylee. It was soo much fun and Cajun Steamer is now my most favorite place :o) We had a great time, tons of laughs and wonderful food!! I took a few pics, so let's see what my picture posting list is looking like now:

Ok, maybe I'll work on that tonight :o) Thanks to all my facebook buddies for the birthday wishes!! Also, thanks for the phone calls and cards. I had a birthday song from my Aunt, Uncle and cousins (so sweet) and John-Bradley sang to his Aunt Mae as well...I had a wonderful day and am very much looking forward to this next year!!

I hope everyone had a great weekend! The weather (other than the rain yesterday) was wonderful! I absolutely love this time of year :o)

I worked last Thursday and Friday night at my new part time job (just training). I start working on the floor tonight, so I'm excited! I'll just be working around 20 hours a week there (that's what I requested), so it shouldn't be too bad. My discount kicked in the first day, so it will be nice to go get new clothes at a cheaper price :o)

Saturday night we had my mom's surprise birthday party...I've never given anyone a surprise party, but it turned out great! We rented out a lodge in Millbrook, decorated and had BBQ for dinner there. She received several gifts and we had a money tree (I would love it if they would bloom more often ;o). We had 5 hours of music on cd's from the 50's, 60's and 70's...it was awesome! All in all it was a great night for a great woman!! We love you mom and hope that you had a wonderful time!!

I know I promised pictures from Josh's party, so hopefully I'll get those as well as pics from mom's party on here in the next couple of days.

By the way, Josh has not updated his blog since ummmm, APRIL! Please go and leave him a comment demanding a new post :o) I'm sure something has happenened in the last 6 months that he can talk about!!

First, I have to say...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOM!!

My sweet momma is 50 today!! Josh and I will be celebrating with her at some point this week. I can't wait :o) She is a wonderful mom and grandmother. I am so happy that she and Josh have such a great relationship...she treats him like her son! It warms my heart :o)

We love you very much!!

In other news, we celebrated Josh's 30th birthday last Friday AND Saturday - pictures and details in another post.

I am happy to announce that I have a second job! I know, I'm a little too excited about working 2 jobs, but it's a part time position at a department store not far from my home! I start training tomorrow...can't wait! It will be nice to have some extra money for the holidays!!

I hope everyone is having a wonderful week so far and enjoying this beautiful weather!! I'm loving it!!
